Subject:Waked
Time:9:43 pm.
Saddest excuse for a geek gathering, but I know Kam was so touched by how many folks came out from far and wide to give a good wake for Zippy. G's just seemed the most appropriate place on so many levels. Stories were shared about him and not seen in long friends reconnected with. We will miss our friend, I know I already do.

Subject:We will miss him.
Time:8:20 am.
Zippy passed at 5:55pm yesterday afternoon.

Kam, Ang, Chris, me, Womble, Colin, Hoche, two of Zippy's coworkers, Kam's boss and Zippy's mom were at his bedside when he went. Others got there just a few mins after, as he went faster than we'd thought.

Angela and Chris working on arrangements and will let people know when plans firm up. Wake to be held at G's Mon/Wed depending if/when out of town people can make it.

We are passing along messages to Kam, and she was really touched at everyone who could lend moral support both in person in the room, at the hospital, and just thinking of Zippy. I've had many offers of help for Kam and we'll let folks know what's going on in that front too.

Subject:Trying not to freak out and not succeding
Time:9:57 pm.
Ok I'm almost there. By this time tomorrow night it'll be over (and with any luck on the news!) The big Parkinson's Symposium is apparently the place to be and we will have tons of folks there, and I just hope the patients have a good day. Now to calm down enough to sleep!

Subject:Slumdog Millionaire
Time:12:23 pm.
We had a lovely Parents Night Out(tm) starting with dinner at Amber India. Although he knew nothing about it but the title and that it had won some awards we went to see Slumdog Millionaire. I dont want to go into the plot or say much other than that it was a really well done bit of cinema. The cinematography built a really amazing colorful pallate, the pacing was wonderful, and I am quite impressed with all the actors (especially given their ages). I'm hoping to see more work from the lead actor Dev Patel.

I do highly recommend this but this is not a light hearted romantic comedy and several scenes were quite difficult to watch.

Subject:Payton/Zippy Update - He's in ICU
Time:7:52 pm.
FYI if you havent heard Zippy has been in the ICU for 10+ days and is in critical condition. After going with Kam to a late showing of Twilight he woke up puking and with severe abdominal pains, eventually they decided it wasnt just the flu or food poisioning and he next morning he went to the ER. He has severe pancretitis (infection/inflamation of the pancreas) which has led to a cascade of kidney's shutting down (he's on dialysis, there is conflicting information on if his kidney's will bounce back if every thing else clears up), he's on a breather (diminished lung capactiy) and is sedated because of it. They did surgery to clear up the blockage but the fever has been lingering and there is conflicting information about the state of his pancreas.

His parents got into town today (and those of you who know his "relationship" with them know how much fun that's thrown into the mix for all).

Tomorrow there is a meeting to try and get him transferred to Stanford and find 1. Intensivist (ICU dr. who deals with critical condition patients) 2. GI Dr. (to deal with gall bladder/pancreas/anything else) 3. Nephrologist (to deal with kidneys) as at this point Regional Medical staff has told folks "he should be fine this is a normal progression for pancretitis which is a bitch to get" "he's got 50/50 chances" "His CT scan is fine" (same CT scan)"Shows massive necrosis of the pancreas". At this point the plan is to get him a second opinion and to Stanford.

We will let folks know if there is anything they can do for him or Kam and try and keep folks updated as we hear stuff. (Name of above dr's at Stanford or who have privileges at Regional Medical Center of San Jose are on the current list of things we've put the word out for). I've put this up on LJ so you can point folks who know him or who ask about it to info.

Subject:Costumey Fun!
Time:4:51 pm.
The holidays are always more fun with kids around (lack of drinking/debauchery aside hehe) and halloween is deffiantly enhanced by the little Bits. We've had a fun year getting Miss G. to decide what she wanted to be (so I would have enough time to make it up). Last year as many might remember she was a "Spiderman Princesss" ("Cause Spidermen need princesses too"). We had "Dalek Princess" in the running for quite a long time but eventually a "Rainbow Princess won out.

Why yes we do have a running theme of Princesses in our life... So off she and I went to JoAnn's and i let her pick out all the fabrics she wanted and its really more a Pink and Yellow Princess than true Rainbow. I'm really happy with how it came out given I did 11th hour sewing as I am prone to do.

The little guy didnt have much of an opinion but seemed to like an off the shelf tiger so so Tiger he was. Kids got to show of costumes at school and fun was had by all.

We also took Little Mister for his first haircut. Its amazing even the second time through how fast they grow up.

Subject:Walking Tall
Time:10:03 pm.
Its amazing how quick the little ones grow up. Allie had his first birthday this month and just a short week after he is really walking. Earlier this week he was sitting on the back room steps playing, stood up and toddled across the room to me with no hesitation or help. Awwww... he also has mastered "Hieeeee" and really surprised his grandparents with a call being able to say "hieeeee" on the phone. Gabby's not far behind in the growing up list, next week she's got Big Plans for her very first sleep over at her best friends house... Man where the hell did all the time go???

Subject:PSA - Green Chile
Time:9:35 pm.
So no matter how long I've lived in the bay area I havent lost my craving for NM style green chile. I tried out a new item at Noah's Bagels " Santa Fe Wrap" with a bit of trepidation but sure enough its not only tasty but seems to have passable green chile in it. For the adventurous I'd also advise trying Bill's Cafe (in Willow Glen and the Rosegarden) "Ortega Omelet" which also seems to have pretty tasty/passable hatch green chile. We're fairly well stocked at home on red chile as well, as when dad was out early this month he made up a batch of a couple of gallons and froze it.

Subject:Thoughts on Birthdays
Time:7:34 pm.
I've never been a big fan of my birthday. I dont have anything against getting older or telling folks my age or anything like that. I'm actually enjoying my 30's quite a lot and relish the wisdom and experiences each new year brings. Its just that traditionally since I was pretty young birthdays were times when I was forgotten, or ill-treated, or have had pretty horrible life altering things happen. Its become a time I dont dread but try not to think about in a "whats going to go wrong" car wreck sort of way.

I am happy to report an uneventful pleasant quiet birthday has passed. I spent yesterday morning sleeping in (after working a 13 hour day previously), having hubby make me breakfast, followed by quiet opening of presents/cards with him and the kids, got a few unexpected well wishes in email from friends I dont talk to enough, a blessedly rare quiet day at work, which I left early, took the kids to parents night out, got to-go food from Maggiano's and curled up with a movie and the hubby in bed. And the most important of birthday traditions to me was upheld, I had good cake (in bed although that parts optional). That's about ideal a day as I get.

Gabby has some weird thoughts about birthdays and I'm not quite sure where she's getting them from as I just avoid the subject mostly... Hers is next week and she's quite adamant and sure that she doesnt want to turn 4 because its awful and she keeps begging to stay 3 :)

Maybe we're all a bit weird about birthdays round these parts...

Subject:New day, new job ... rolling along
Time:7:53 am.
Well I appear to have rejoined the workforce and my days of being blissfully at home with Allie are at an end. Got an offer on Wednesday for a new job, and they wanted me to start on Friday so back into the fray it is.

I am very lucky to get to stay in the non-profit world and I'm now at the Parkinson's Institute as a one person Development Department (I get to do it all baby). The pay is decent and although the organization is a bit on the more conservative side (being both a patient clinic and a research facility) I'm extremely excited about it all. One thing to get used to will be the emphasis put on the dress code I'll need to upgrade the wardrobe again as one of the primary "public" faces of the center.

Allie, who is now 5 months old, had his first day at daycare Friday and seemed pretty happy with it, even if he's still uninterested in drinking from a bottle. Since we've already been through this once with Gabby we know the routine and the teachers so well its like stepping back into a comfortable shoe.

Subject:Back in the saddle again
Time:7:26 pm.
Ok its been a busy summer (what with Allie being born and all that). He turned 3 months old this week and I'm officially unemployed. I let my job know that I am not coming back and going to enjoy time at home with the little one (till I find something else - if anyone hears of marketing openings lemme know). I did love alot of things about this job and still feel strongly they are doing good in the world but I cant justify day care for 2 on a non-profit salary.

So I'm getting alot of random stuff done and one of the biggest projects we're about to start is remodeling the kitchen/whole front half of the house! They are going to be starting at the beginning of November and we'll be without a kitchen for about 5 weeks (*JOY*!). If anyone wants to invite us all to dinner we'd be happy to come invade.

So one thing I havent done in too long is go to a dance class of any kind. I've always wanted to try Flamenco but used the excuse that I'm too fat/out of shape to ever try it out. Ya know the usual excuses. Anyhow time to shutup and just do it so I found out the local awesome dance studio just added ... Flamenco who could resist? So I went to 1 1/2 hour class today... So fun and I loved the teacher but I'm not sure if my knees/feet will ever forgive me. Need to get some real shoes if I want to go back and a pair of castanets. I already feel unbelievably sore and tired but happy to be dancing again. Now to take a friend to try out Capoeira on Wednesday.. that should prove beyond a doubt how horribly out of shape I am YAY!

Subject:PSA
Time:2:04 pm.
One of the things I miss the most about living in New Mexico is the food. Mmmm... the food... and a staple item of all NM dishes be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner is Green Chile. Hard to come by and a bit of a pain to transport. Well a dear relative of mine made a discovery and sent me some in the mail. Green chile in single serving packets that doesnt need refrigeration and is a great size for everyday use. I have 6 packets I'm going to give a try to but I have high hopes. I've had their other products and they are really good. Anyhow enjoy they do ship so enjoy!

Subject:Waiting and Waiting
Time:7:31 pm.
Had my 38 week checkup today with Dr. B. Alls well and I'm in "terrific shape" but very unlikely to go into labor this week., little one is intent on staying where he is for now (hasn't dropped, no dilation, got nuthin *sigh*). So went to yoga tonight, I continue to love Harmony Birth Center in all their granola happy ways. Plan to keep getting house ready and taking lots of naps during the day. Back to the Dr. next week for ultrasound to check his size/position (Dr. thinks he's going to be bigger than gabby - we'll see..)and see if we're any closer.

Subject:Great way to start a day
Time:10:18 am.
Mmmmmm... I woke up to a wonderful start to mother's day. My dear husband and Gabby made me one of the best breakfasts ever - scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, homemade buttermilk biscuits with homemade strawberry jam. Now that's a way to start a day!

Subject:Taking care of yourself
Time:8:37 pm.
Ok so I'm much better at offering advice to others for taking care of themselves than following my own advice. I'm now in the third trimester and body aches abound... Tonight I finally listened to myself and the bodyaches and went to a prenatal-yoga class. God that felt good, and why didnt I do that sooner? If anyone in the bay area is looking for a nice supportive place for pre and post natal classes in yoga/birthing/childcare etc. check out http://www.harmonybirth.com/ It is a pretty granola crunchy hippy sort of place but it works for me. Tonights instructor is a nice yoga teacher/doula/massage therapist who was perfect at helping everyone find stretches/poses tailored to everyones issues. Now to make it a regular weekly event.

Everyone should go out and do something they know is good for them that they like to do and put off because it seems like too much effort, go on ya know you want to!
